Day 43 - Work Week Recap

This was a tough long week at work - don't they know I'm counting down?? It was hard to check things off my list this week but I can't complain too much about work since my job is funding my fun. I did have some special moments. Dolce Bakery in Prairie Village HAS to be one of the greatest bakeries in the midwest - and I know bakeries! So I made a stop there one day on my way home from work and treated myself to a pumpkin whoopie pie!!! I love anything pumpkin and these were amazing. Sparked me into making a loaf of pumpkin bread the very next night! And then last night went to Coal Vines on the plaza with my boyfriend for my new favorite pizza. Yumm! Had some wine too!

I also received some surprise gifts! This absolutely perfect tote to take on my upcoming trip and it was filled with fun things to take along - a scarf, slippers and a magazine! I am a total bag lady - love totes, purses, bags of any kind and was spending countless hours trying to decide which bag to take on the plane. Decision made! Taking this one.......

Love, love love!!!

Love, love love!!!

And today got a care package from my sweet Keeley. What do you get from a Starbucks employee? Duh! Great coffee!!! Thanks Keeley!!

Day 48 - Thomas Hart Benton

Another perfect fall day in KC! I volunteered at the Nelson-Atkins museum today and then Deidre met me there and we saw the Thomas Hart Benton special exhibit that just opened. As with all the things the Nelson does it was wonderful. Too much to see and take in so I will make another visit before it leaves in early January.

The Nelson owns quite a bit of his work as he taught at the Art Institute here so I have been fortunate to see some of his work prior to this exhibit.

I can't believe how quickly the days are flying by - but the countdown has been fun and I love all the interest from my friends and family. You all are the main reason the past almost 60 years have been so memorable - the best is yet to be!

Day 49 - The Race!

Today was pretty much a perfect day! And it was jam packed! Started bright and early with the KC Half Marathon. My girls arrived at my building bright and early to stay warm before heading out to ideal race conditions. And the race started a block from my front door - convenient and fun!

Here is the group in my lobby pre-race. 5 doing the half and Linda doing the full marathon!

The weather could not have been more perfect - sunny and 45 degrees the whole race. It's a beautiful course that takes you past the Liberty Memorial, Westport, Plaza, Hyde Park and back through downtown to Crown Center and my home. Saw our KC Express ladies at the 6 mile waterstop in Westport all decked out in Royals gear - great job ladies!!

We convened back at my place and had front row seats to cheer our friends as they crossed the line - including Linda as she finished her marathon with a great time! So much fun drinking coffee and laughing with these great friends. And everyone got a medal!

My first half marathon in a year and a half so I was very happy!

I am working through my list of 60 days to 60 and one of the things I have wanted to do is tour The Roastery Factory right in my neighborhood. The Roastery is a specialty coffee maker here in KC, but has gotten recognition in the entire region as having a premier product, and many of the best restaurants in KC serve their own blend. Well I LOVE coffee so I made a reservation for Jim and I to take the tour.

Their logo is an airplane and they have a real one sitting on top their bulding!

The tour was interesting and we learned a lot about coffee! The Roastery uses an air roasting method to insure even roasting and that's what the airplane symbolizes - learned that too! Plus so much about the differences between coffee beans and what makes good coffee more expensive. I am enjoying a cup as I type this in fact! The Roastery is another great KC treasure and we got to try the special blend made for The American restaurant at the end - yumm!

Next up visiting The Scout statue. The Scout sits on a bluff overlooking the downtown so the view is spectacular. It was a perfect day to make a visit.

The Scout is more then 10 feet tall and depicts a Sioux Indian on horseback surveying the landscape. It was dedicated in 1922.

Counting down - 50 days to go! Started the day with DONUTS!!!!
