Last Blog Post!! (Before the Trip!)
This is most likely my LAST post from KC. My NEXT post will be from Barcelona!!! WOOHOO!!! Leaving next Saturday and lots to do - not the least of which is work - between now and then. But it will be all worth it - I am very excited and it's just days away! From Barcelona I take the train to Madrid, then fly to Lisbon, then fly to Paris and then back to KC. I will be gone 2 weeks and will try and post at least a bit every day - what I did and what I ate. Thanks for coming along with me!!!
This past week in KC has been filled with some fun things as well. The weather has been for the most part pretty nice - although very windy. Monday was beautiful so when I got home from work decided to take a walk down through the Power & Light, River Market and the Crossroads. While on my walk I had the pleasure of seeing all 3 of the recently arrived street cars being tested. There will be 4 in total and the 4th arrived late this past week. Here is what they look like:
And for at least the first year they will be FREE!!! I am very excited! First day to ride is Friday May 6th - and that's also First Friday so lots going on here in KC that whole weekend!
Wednesday evening Julie and I had our Broadway Theater tickets to see "Kinky Boots" at the Music Hall. It won the Tony for Best Musical the year it came out, and I have wanted to see it but couldn't get tickets when I tried in NYC. We met at one of my very favorite places in my neighborhood for drinks and appetizers before the show - Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen. Love, love , love this place! One of the top 100 best wine lists in the country so lots of choices even by the glass! It's at 15th and Walnut and does have some parking right on the south side. Excellent Happy Hour every day from 4-6 PM.
The show was fantastic! I highly recommend it and everyone there seemed to enjoy it equally as much. This was obviously the touring company as it's only here for 5 days, but the cast was so wonderful and talented I can't imagine that the Broadway cast could have been better. And we have a great venue here in KC at the Music Hall.
I LOVE pizza and was feeling the need so Jim and I went to a great pizza place last night. Very cool atmosphere in the River Market and the new streetcar tracks in front are all ready to go. It's called IL Lazzarone and it's on Delaware right next to the Quay Coffeeshop. Thin crust pizza, great salads, and a full bar. They have this awesome pizza oven that was imported from Italy and cooks the pizza in less then 90 seconds because the oven has an average temperature of 1000 degrees!!! HOT!!
And lastly the Cheesecake Taste-Off!! Taking a temporary hiatus while I'm gone - but no worries - I will be blogging my dessert consumption as I travel. Drumroll please.............Red Velvet Cheesecake!!
I rate this cheesecake a 4. It was wonderful! Did not have a traditional cheesecake crust - instead a layer of delicious red velvet cake topped by a cheesecake layer, another red velvet cake layer, cheesecake layer and then an amazing frosting that was like a sweet whip cream. It's hard to see the frosting - but it's definitely there. Here is a picture of the back of the cake - it's just so pretty I took a separate picture.
I saw this quote and wanted to share it -

Make it a great week!!!
